New Recycling Priorities in Europe

EuRIC presents 2024-2029 plan to strengthen recycling in Europe, promoting circular economy and sustainability.

EuRIC proposes a transformation in the European approach to recycling for the next five years, highlighting the importance of circularity and sustainability. In August 2024, the European Recycling Industries Confederation (EuRIC) presented a strategic plan for the period 2024-2029, with the aim of integrating recycling into the heart of Europe's industrial and environmental agenda. This plan seeks to strengthen the global competitiveness of the European recycling sector through fair trade policies and the active promotion of recycled materials. The plan emphasises the need to advance eco-design, promoting the use of recycled materials in line with the goals of the European Green Deal. In addition, EuRIC advocates the rapid adoption of uniform criteria at EU level to facilitate circular value chains. In a context of growing concern for sustainability, the confederation underlines the importance of a transition towards a circular and climate-neutral economy. EuRIC stresses that increasing the rate of use of recycled materials and reducing Europe's dependence on imported raw materials will not only stabilise prices in the long term, but will also reduce the continent's vulnerability to fluctuations in the global energy market. EuRIC's proposed approach includes the implementation of a "Green Industrial Deal 2.0", encouraging key investments to support this transition, ensuring greater coherence between European legislations on resource efficiency, climate and chemicals.
